BYRON SHIRE COUNCIL ASKING FOR COMMUNITY INPUT
Following yesterday's announcement of a trial, Sunday CBD partial closure to vehicular traffic - this is Byron Shire Council's current plan for a permanent, Community Markets location. Illustrated below, closure area expected to be from 6am to 6pm.
Remember - this market is not only held on the first Sunday of the month, there are extra and similar markets held throughout the year, some held on a Saturday. (Not the Twilight Market - these are additional markets.) It's not yet clear if they would be held here too - but it's likely.
At this time, the EPA are investigating Butler Street Reserve's toxic groundwater run off. Market Stallholders do not wish to return the site. For those new to the area - Butler Street Reserve was formerly used as an unlicensed landfill up until the mid-1970s and according to the EPA, is considered a legacy contaminated site.
