The Nimbin Markets are held on the fourth and fifth Sundays of each month, and are located in the picturesque surroundings of the Nimbin Community Centre. Nimbin is an alternative hippy town located about 70km west of Byron Bay, and about a 40-minute drive from Lismore. Nimbin has its own unique style that is unlike any place in the North Coast region.
The colourful market stalls at the Nimbin Markets are home to an array of goods that represent the diversity of Nimbin. You will find unique, locally made crafts and arts, exotic imported goods, antique and secondhand bric-a-brac, stalls offering massage therapy, fresh fruit and veggies, and freshly made hot food and coffee. After shopping, take a seat beneath the shady fig trees and enjoy the exciting line up of entertainers that each market has to offer.
The Nimbin Market, previously known as the Nimbin Aquarius Fair, also supports a type of alternative funding scheme, a LET note, which is accepted by many of the stallholders. For further information about this alternative way of funding, the LETS Group have stalls at the markets.
Another point of interest at the Nimbin Markets is that visitors are able to witness Nimbin local radio station, NIM-FM 102.3, in action. The radio station sometimes offers market-goers to watch a broadcast as it happens, and perhaps even speak on-air.
After you have visited the Market, be sure to explore the town of Nimbin. It is a true gem of the region: somewhere truly unlike any other place.
